So, I’m on Chapter 2 of this book on God – well, let’s back up here. C.S. Lewis (Yes, the C.S. Lewis aka author of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) discusses this intrinsic “genetic code” (if you will) of a Moral Law. I think there is absolutely one. Just think about it: when you’re behind the wheel at some red lights, waiting for folks to pass through the crosswalk, as you sit there, don’t you just wonder, “Dang. This is all working very well, like clockwork. There’s so much trust. What prevents drivers from just running all these people over? Is it just the law? Is it just fear of punishment per the law?” No. I don’t think so – I think it’s that moral law, that ever-ingrained moral code that I think God set into our genetic code.
Anyway, as I read Ch 2 of this book that I’m basically *supposed* to be finished with by now (if it weren’t for the fact that life has met me with challenges anew from right-left-centerfield, 280 degrees NW and angles in-between I didn’t think possible, even self-imposed ones like learning about avoiding tax– I mean, erm, tax-efficient management strategies *ahem* for clients, not for me! no doubt) – anyway, this thought came to mind and I had to write it down:
As human, are we always aiming to be like God? To go back to Source?
The reason I say this is because as CS Lewis wraps up Chapter 2, it dawns on me that a lot of this goes to differences in understanding of what moral law or basic definitions of things mean. Your understanding of what is “right” can be completely different than what is “right” to me, which is why when we find people to befriend, marry, be part of our support network, etc. we look for similarities in values. That comes down to communication and understanding each other – what are the other person’s values, beliefs, what constitutes their sense of justice (or if they even have one, ha!). Then, this made me think of several things, almost at once:
- Unity in thought – no disconnect in language or speech. ESP. Telepathic thought where everyone knows what you are thinking, and you know what everyone else is thinking, and everyone is… one. (Have you heard of near-death experience videos? Those who pass to the other side say that communication is different – it’s absolutely and there is no hiding; what you think is what others will know instantly, there’s no disconnect, no guessing, you’re all one. And perhaps, in another revelation-moment of mine, perhaps that is why thoughts are so powerful. Perhaps to some degree, we still have some of that — ever heard of two people spending so much time together that they begin finishing each others’ sentences? Or you know someone so well that you can read their face and instantly just know their thoughts?)
- The tower of Babel when in the Book of Genesis people tried to build a ladder (?) or something to get to the Heavens (Kind of reminds me of Icarus – and looked what happened to him when he flew too high – scorched his wings and got brought back down. Lesson in humility, folks). Same thing with the tower of Babel. Oh duhr, they were building a tower, not a ladder – thus the name, the TOWER of Babel…
- What if we all had perfect communication – a single common thought?
- Are we trying to become more like God?
- AI (as in, Artificial Intelligence; not alternative investments *guffaws*) Is AI the modern-day Tower-Of-Babel attempt to reach the Heavens, or be more like God, to try and “make a name” for ourselves?
- God is Source (“Source of what?” you say. Source of all.)
Yes, this all ran through my mind, and I’m convinced God will have his way, whatever way that is. In Genesis, God creates different languages, saying (almost ominously), ” ‘this is only the beginning of what they will do’ ” (Genesis 11:6, ESV). He seems to know how greed and evil can come with increased power and glory to man, if left untamed. So am I convinced AI will somehow find its stopping path? Perhaps yes, because if God knows that the intent of mankind and the direction of AI is to be used for darkness and evil, AI will be impeded, unless God wants us all wiped out, which is not likely since he gives us rainbows to remind us of his sealed promises and has already saved us all.
So, I guess AI, you better find good intent or use yourself for non-evil purposes (aka for good).
